Most Friday nights me, the Aussie and some of our friends will meet up at Dinah Beach for dinner and to listen to the live music.
The live music is actually an open mic night which encourages people to get up and sing/play the guitar, drums etc which is always fun because two of our friends will always do this when we go and it’s great to see them performing but also you get to see new people getting up and getting better every week as well as the regulars whose music you just enjoy listening too.
The Aussie is going to guitar lessons at the moment so talk often turns to teasing him about when he will be getting up (maybe next week!) and then I get asked by him and others when I will get up and sing (I’m not nearly drunk enough and don’t think I can actually sing!).
I love music and am always listening to it when I can, I’m that annoying person switching radio stations when the DJ’s start taking, and I love singing badly, especially apparently when I don’t know the words but I hate hate hate public speaking of any kind.
It’s a bit crazy as I am a lawyer so public speaking goes with the territory right? Yes but in the UK there is more of a distinction between solicitors and barristers where the barristers do most of the court work and solicitors don’t have to, depending upon the court and whether your client wants a barrister to attend for them. I used to do the telephone hearings all the time and enjoyed them but getting me stood up in a court or tribunal was my worst stuttering, forgetting what I wanted to say nightmare.
As you know I also read a reading at my friends wedding a few weeks ago and I was ever so slightly terrified at the public speaking aspect, even though I was surrounded by friends and people I have grown up knowing. It would definitely have to be someone special to get me to do that.
I’m not sure where my “fear” of public speaking came from, when I was in primary and secondary school I took part in plays and presentations. I even studied drama as a GCSE (to avoid other subjects, most likely P.E) and I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad experience of public speaking but I hate it.
I’m not sure how I could get over this fear either, other than just doing it but that isn’t something I’m likely to just jump into unless it’s karaoke of course, I love that!!!
What are your fears? Have you managed to get over a fear you had? How did you do it? I’d love to hear suggestions.

I’m the same way, always change the station when there is talking or ads đŸ™‚
I used to be nervous speaking in front of others, like they say just keep doing it and it becomes natural!

Haha sometimes you just don’t want to hear the boring chatter đŸ™‚ I think I will have to keep trying to do the public speaking as it will become a big part of my job in the next year or so eek! Thank you for dropping by my blog too!
