Ages ago I bought some tickets to go and see Passenger when he played in Darwin this week. I would forget about the tickets and every so often remember I had them until Monday of this week when I looked at my calendar and realised the tickets were for this Thursday!
Passenger was on his Whispers Tour which is also the same name as his current album. He was supported by a pretty cool Candadian group called The Once who play a same style of music as Passenger and put on a great show. It must be pretty difficult to be in another Country supporting a British Act knowing that everyone just wants Passenger to come on stage but they handled it well and were very entertaining.
Passenger himself is very well known for his song Let Her Go and played that for us mid show. He also played Holes which is probably almost as famous whilst moving through a variety of songs from his various albums (there are 6 in total).
He played solo, just him and his guitar and was really good, getting the audience involved and up and dancing and also telling us the background to some of his songs. He is definitely a fantastic guitarist and at times I couldn’t help but watch the guitar skills (this must come from the Aussie’s guitar learning).
He also played my favourite song, Things that Stop You Dreaming so I was very happy. The only “disappointment” was that he didn’t play his song Whispers which was after all the name of the tour or Heart’s on Fire but I still had a great evening and would definitely go and watch him perform somewhere else.
