Wow it has been a hectic month getting into the swing of studying and trying to find a schedule that is manageable whilst working full time, having a social life of some kind and a method of study that works for me.
I think I have just about sussed it all out and now spend time listening to the lectures on Saturday morning with a cup of coffee or three, do the reading and prepare for the seminars for each subject. I am not great at focusing for a whole day and getting it all done on Saturday which means that my weekends are generally full of preparation for the seminars the following week and assignments research which are due in the next five weeks in between a more social weekend. Achieving work-life-study balance can be tricky.
I still have another 4 undergraduate subjects to complete once this semester is done and then at least 2 post graduate level subjects after that. I’m considering studying all 4 undergrad subjects in one go from July to November and then the post grad subjects in February when I am back from the UK over Christmas. Its going to mean no free time really up until Christmas but I have travelling home to look forward to and I just want this studying to be done so I can just get on and do the job I love. My parents and brother are also hopefully coming over to Darwin in time for my admissions ceremony which is a HUGE incentive to finish.
I am starting to think that I should really have just signed up for a third subject this semester and then completed the other 3 next semester but typically the subjects I have to study are only available in the second semester of the year so it’s a bit all or nothing and I don’t want to delay qualification any longer than necessary.
The Aussie and I did take a lovely walk around Nightcliff (I REALLY want to live here when our lease runs out in August) on Sunday night as a break from studying and to spend some time together as he was working away from Darwin last week and took in a very beautiful sunrise which always makes you feel grateful and appreciate what you have I think.
I will of course get there and I am grateful that in just a short while I will be a lawyer qualified in England and Wales and Australia which is why I am linking up with Emily of Ember Grey Grateful Heart Monday link up. Luckily I do also quite enjoy the subjects I am learning about and some of it is useful in the wider context of the law so I understand things a lot better than I did before, that’s another thing to be grateful for as well I think!
What are you grateful about this Monday?
