Firstly today is my Mum’s birthday so I want to wish her the happiest of birthdays xxx
The mum of one of our lovely American friends visited Brisbane for 3 weeks during October and we got to go along on some of their family adventures which included the trip to Draculas and also a visit to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Fig Tree Pocket.
I really enjoyed our trip, we spent about 3 hours there in total and saw nearly all of the animals that live at the sanctuary. We purchased a yearly pass ticket which cost us $52, it is cheaper to buy the tickets online and we know we will visit again at least with my family and will also pop back with any other visitors who may come to stay if they fancy it.
We headed straight to the general store so I could buy a ticket to have a cuddle with and photograph with a koala. I loved this but it did cost $20. However, having been to other tourist attractions in Australia this seems about right and I did think it was worth it. I have never seen a koala in “real life” and the experience was brilliant.
After hugging a koala we visited the kangaroo paddock where you can literally sit down and have your photos taken with the kangaroos. I bought some kangaroo food for $2 and the kangaroos would take the food out of your hand and very very gently!
We walked around the paddock and there were a few kangaroos who had babies and you could see the babies squirming around in the pouches which was pretty special.
Next up we stopped for some icecream (of course) before walking back round to the area where the keepers do talks about the koalas. There we found them changing over the eucalyptus plants and were treated to a show by the koalas as they dashed around trying to find the perfect leaves! This really made my day as we were so close to the koalas but they were happy to potter around doing their own thing, when they could be bothered to move that is.
Finally we had a wander around the rest of the enclosures and found dingos, crocodiles, wombats, very shy tasmanian devils and plenty of birds.
As I said above, we had a great day out at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary so I would definitely say that if you find yourself in the area it is well worth a visit!
