Firstly Happy Birthday to my Mum! I hope you have a wonderful day!
A few weekends ago the Aussie and I found ourselves with a weekend with no plans and so we decided we wanted to get out and explore and do a bit of a walk. I googled places around Brisbane to watch the sunset and Redcliffe came up as a suggestion.
The Aussie had previously visited Redcliffe with family but I hadn’t and so it seemed like a good place to try. Plus I was aware that the Bee Gees lived in Redcliffe after emigrating to Australia and that there is a commemorative walk way called Bee Gees Way which I wanted to check out.
After an eventful road trip, mainly because I was convinced that Redcliffe was in a different direction so when the sat nav lost its signal in the tunnel I ignored its last direction and got out the tunnel too soon! This resulted in a long round about journey to get to Redcliffe but we made it!
Leading up to Redcliffe you have to cross the Houghton Highway which runs alongside the Heritage listed Hornibrook Bridge.
On arrival we parked near the RSL Club and took a walk down to and along the jetty which is the third jetty which has been built in that location which opened in 1999.
It is quite a nice walk out along the jetty and we stopped for a few minutes to take in the views and watching people jump off the jetty whilst trying to dodge the splashes.
After the pier the Aussie took me to find Bee Gees Way which is a lovely space where you can read about the history of the Bee Gees, look at photos taken over the years and watch video clips. There are various benches set out along the 70 metre walk way where you can sit and take it all in.
We then took a walk along the High Street and back along the Esplanade which is part of the Clontarf Redcliffe Walk. We only walked a couple of kilometres but walked past the Amphitheatre which also housed a baseball court, the public swimming pool and various cafes and restaurants which would be nice to visit on another trip.
We ended our trip back on the jetty and watched the sunset which was a bit of a cracker.
