Yesterday (Saturday) I had a bit of a hectic day as I had lots planned all for one day.
My day started off by driving in to work to see the office being visited by a Lion from the local Chung Wah Society to do their traditional Lion Dance.
The Lion Dance is believed to scare away evil spirits and brings good luck, joy, fortune, and happiness. It is often performed at the openings of businesses, religious festivals, cultural ceremonies, and special occasions, but mostly can be seen during Chinese New Year celebrations.
I really enjoyed watching the dance and it was also fun watching them in different locations around the city as they visited local businesses and residences to do their dances.
After that I went for a coffee and croissant with one of my friends from work and a bit of a wander around the shops where I somehow managed to resist buying anything!! We also spotted the Lion out and about.
I also popped to the cinema to watch 12 Years a Slave which was an amazing but very sad film based upon the true story and book by Solomon Northup. This is a book I am definitely going to read soon.
Finally after a quickish trip back home to pick up the Aussie I went to watch my first ever AFL foootball match in Australia which was played between St Marys and Wanderers.
I was supporting St Marys and they won with a score of 145 to Wanderers 35 so it was a really good game to watch!
The Aussie was trying to teach me the rules as they played so I also learnt something and will understand a bit more about what is going on next time I see a match!
