The Aussie, our American friends and Naomi discovered that there was a deal on Groupon for VIP tickets to Draculas. We decided we would pay a visit when L’s Mom was in town for a visit and Naomi’s friend made it 7 people.

Draculas is a comedy cabaret restaurant! There is also a haunted house as well as events for kids because the main show is rated MA15+.

For our VIP tickets we received a ghost train ride, 3 course meal, priority entrance, a souvenir necklace, premium seating amongst a few other things.

We arrived for 6.30pm and were greeted by the wait staff who checked us in for our VIP booking. We were given a draculas necklace which identified us as VIP’s and upon entering the building we ended up in a room where a video played on the ceiling giving the impression we were in a coffin.

A short stroll through the building and we were provided with a glass of wine and some bubbles before making our way to the a ghost train. Overall the ghost train was not too scary but they did take videos of us all going through the ghost train and having one of the girls stick her arm out in front of us as we went past in the carriage to scare us. The video was shown during the course of the evening and prompted a lot of laughs.

We were then shown to our tables which were quite high up, think the balcony seats in a theatre. We were provided with our three course dinner. Our starter was some chips and dips which kept us going until the starter and we managed to line up a second round of chips. The starter was really quite tasty and we then got to select a main from four options which included chicken, beef, fish and vegetarian. Dessert was a chocolate coffin filled with mousse. The food was pretty good overall and we enjoyed each course.

The drinks were provided via table service. The alcoholic and non-alcoholic selections were pretty good and we managed to get regular water top ups. One of our party even requested milk for a mixer and this was forthcoming! Our waitress had a lot of tables to keep on top of but she did well and was very attentive.

The show itself began when we walked in. The house band were playing and sounded pretty good but we couldn’t hear what they were singing because of the sound of the instruments, this happened throughout the evening. Next up was Coco who played the DJ for a while and Coco and the band played on and off between various acts around the table areas.

The main show was called Terrabyte and unfortunately we found this aspect a bit disappointing. The premise of Terrabyte is that the vampire virus had spread from computers to people turning them into vampires. After an initial dance which seemed to relate to the vampires waking up the rest seemed to have no relation to the theme of the night.

The performers were good on the whole in their seperate acts. Coco completed a funny skit singing various songs whilst dancing/acting with a vacuum cleaner. There were some brilliant acrobatic moments from the dancers that kind of saved the show really. The girls were strong and their acts were stunning.

The night ended and we were told a number of times not to leave our tables because the night wasn’t over aka stay at your table to pay for your drinks.

A few of our group had been to Dracula’s on both the Gold Coast and in Melbourne and they said the show was not really like the shows they had seen before. Our expectations were not met unfortunately and our ticket prices were quite high for what we got but the evening was saved by the people we were with and that was the important part.

I probably wouldn’t pay for VIP tickets if we visited again because we were quite far away from the performance but with a good group like we had it could be a fun night out.
