My Favourite Photos from April

June 25, 2015 by Vicky Leave a Comment

As I’ve been a bit AWOL from my blog for a month or so I didn’t get an opportunity to post my favourite photos from April. I took quite a few photos on my DSLR this month but I am saving them for some posts in the coming weeks but here are my photos from my iPhone.

My Favourite Photos from April

1) A bit blurry but this photo was taking at the sailing club at sunset. It’s always nice to see the boats out in Fannie Bay because they tend to leave for the wet season because of the weather and they move back when the dry season starts.

2) This photo was taken on our Yellow Water Cruise when we visited Kakadu.

3) Another Kakadu photo this time of the highway heading down to the escarpment. The view was stunning and I made the Aussie stop quite a few times to take photos of it.

4) This little grasshopper guy was sat on the bonnet of our car and promptly launched himself off of it when I tried to take photos.

5) Another coffee time spent with one of my lovely friends. I can’t work out how they make the patterns and my coffees taste yum but look terrible.

6) Kakadu featured heaving in my pictures from April and this photo was taken at the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre.

7) April was of course Easter and this bunny was a gift from my boss at work and he was delicious!!!

8) Sunset view from our balcony – it really never gets old for me.

9) This is a weather guide/predictor which was at the Bowali Visitor Centre in Kakadu.

10) Finally a tower at the end of the highway which lead to an escarpment.

Family Trip Update

June 29, 2014 by Vicky 2 Comments

Having a great time with the family so far. We’ve been crocodile spotting, bird watching, visiting the markets as well as learning about Darwin’s involvement in World War II and attending a Viking Funeral so it’s been very busy but lots of fun.

I’m taking a LOT of photos as well so will write some posts over the next few weeks to tell you about our adventures through Darwin.

I’ve put together a HUGE list of things we can do in Darwin over the next week as well so we’re trying to decide what we should do so we can fit everything in. Although I think that if we don’t manage it all this week they will just have to visit me again!

I’m also really pleased with the house that we are staying in. We are staying in a house in a place called Fannie Bay (I can’t help laughing every time I say that) so their not getting the full outback experience but we’re close to the seaside which I love and so central it takes hardly any time to go to the places we want to visit.

We were also visited by a very cute green tree frog at the house who managed to get covered in my hair after my brother cut my hair for me this week! I was very excited and pleased that my brother was confident enough to give my hair a cut after recently qualifying as a Barber as I am a very anxious person in the hairdressers. Luckily the frog didn’t jump on my shoulder like last time when he hitched a ride after my shower.

Museum and Gallery of the Northern Territory

April 3, 2014 by Vicky Leave a Comment

Yesterday I paid a visit to the Museum and Gallery of the Northern Territory. I had been there before a couple of years ago so thought it was time for a return trip, plus it has free entry and air conditioning which is very appealing in the current weather!

Museums and Art Galleries of the Northern Territory

The museum often has exhibitions that are worth having a look around and at the moment there is Wallace: the rEvolutionary man on from 9 November 2013 to 22 June 2014 and Exit Art: Contemporary Youth Art of Northern Territory Year 12 Students which is in the museum from 22 February 2014 until 8 June 2014.

There are also really interesting displays about Cyclone Tracy which happened on 24 December 1974 and caused much devastation in Darwin, creatures of the northern territory (including spiders yuck), Sweetheart the seriously giant crocodile and the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award Collection (you can view this work online as well here)

I found the Alfred Wallis exhibition to be very interesting. On the website for the museum it describes the exhibition as commemorating the 100th anniversary of eminent naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace’s passing, this exhibition will showcase Wallace’s exploration of the tropical jungles of Southeast Asia and New Guinea, and his ideas on Evolution by Natural Selection and biogeography. The exhibition includes specimens of butterflies, beetles and birds of paradise, as well as prints of drawings and maps by Wallace.

Red Velvet Cake

After spending a few hours at the museum I popped in to the Cornucopia Museum Cafe which is on site with gorgeous views of the coastline and had a very delicious slice of red velvet cake before going for a walk along the beach to walk the cake off!
