Birthday Adventures – Blogmas Day 2

December 2, 2018 by Vicky Leave a Comment

Not strictly Christmas or Blogmas related but I wanted to share what we did for my birthday as I had a lovely Birthday weekend.

After finishing work on the 23rd, the Aussie and I drove down to the Gold Coast and caught up with Naomi and her gorgeous cats. We arrived with time to spare for the delivery of the cookie pies which I ordered from Dough House for us to enjoy. The delivery arrived and we were not disappointed and may have sampled one of the cookies!

Cookies Time from Dough House

After a great nights sleep with the sound of the waves down on the beach down below to lull us to sleep we woke up to one of my favourite views.

Good morning Gold Coast

After a round of tea and coffee (and a protein shake for me because I was already hungry as I normally eat at 5am before the gym!) we got dressed and headed to The Paddock Bakery for breakfast where we also met up with the Aussie’s sister and her husband who are driving around Australia at the moment.

I had booked a table in the loft area upstairs. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos of the space but they have lots on their Instagram page and you will see how gorgeous it is up there.

Naomi and I may have started with a donut before our breakfasts were served. The sugar rush was real and it was probably a good job I choose the Breakfast in Bed which is a savoury breakfast so I didn’t end up with more sugar, although it defeated me and I ate more breakfast, less bread!

We then spent a bit of time at Robina where I picked up a couple of Christmas presents and we collected some food from Woolworths for our dinner.

A nanna nap later I suggested we go for a swim in the sea and we popped on our swimming togs and I grabbed my underwater camera. We did some wave jumping and paddling enjoying the cooling waters as the sun went down.

After a shower we had a kind of tapas dinner of meat, cheese, crackers and salad before settling down to watch a movie and then bed.

The next morning started nice and slow with a cooked breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast (I may have had a cookie before hand) and then I enjoyed a lovely bath before we packed up and drove back to Brisbane.

On my actual birthday I was working but my boss let me finish early so it was lovely to get home and spend some time with the Aussie before dinner. After dinner I called my Mum and Dad on FaceTime and it was fantastic to see and spend the time with them on FaceTime. It is now not long until me and the Aussie fly home (19 days but who is counting!) and I am very very much looking forward to it.

Colour Run 2018

September 23, 2018 by Vicky Leave a Comment

You may have noticed from this blog that I am a bit competitive / a glutton for punishment as I keep signing up for organised walk/runs (and dragging Naomi and the Aussie along for the ride)!

Last year Naomi and I did the Colour Run. It was a lot of fun and so when the dates were released for the Gold Coast event I signed us up.

The day of the Colour Run came around and unfortunately Naomi was poorly so I roped the Aussie in. Luckily he’s on a health kick at the moment too so he agreed (maybe grudgingly!).

The run takes place on a Sunday morning and so we got up and dressed in our colour run tshirts and headbands and headed to the start line at Broadwater Parklands.

When we arrived there was a big stage again and lots going on. You could get lots of free goodies like coffee, fruit, cereal bars, pens and all sorts. Though it was tricky as we still had to do the 5km’s!

At the start time they let people through in waves so we lined up and we’re on our way pretty quickly.

We quickly began hitting the colour sections where the paint is thrown, chucked and sprinkled on you! I opted for a twirl at each station for maximum coverage!

We made our way round in a good time, accepted our medal and were blasted with a leaf blower to get the loose paint off!

There were free Krispy Kream donuts and Slurpies but that didn’t appeal to either of us! We headed back to the apartment we were staying in (thank you again so much Naomi) showered and headed back to Brisbane.

I will definitely sign up for next years Colour Run and I think the Aussie may as well!

My August Faves

September 12, 2018 by Vicky Leave a Comment

Another month over and August was a fun one!

1) The month started with a trip to the night Noodle Market at Southbank. The Aussie and I decided we needed a night walk in and around the City on the Friday night. We didn’t know what would be on at Southbank but there is usually something. The event was lovely and the area was bustling with stalls selling Asian food. I didn’t try anything but the Aussie was impressed and has hoped the market was back on when we’ve visited the area again on a Friday night.

2) I paid a trip to the Powerhouse with Naomi to watch Letters to Lindy which I talked about here. I really enjoy visiting the theatre at the Powerhouse is located in the beautiful New Farm area.

3) & 9) These photo was taken on my walk/runs around our local park just before the sun started setting. I love that we are so close to a park and with just a few laps of the park I can easily manage a good 3.5 or 5.5km walk/run.

4) The Glass House Mountains. On Ekka day we paid a visit to the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains. This photo was taken from one of the lookouts and still takes my breath away a bit. I love being in the great outdoors these days and feel lucky that within an hour or so we can be in this vista.

5) Colour Run – this was a fun morning for me and the Aussie which I am planning on writing about very soon!

6) P!nk! I still can’t believe that I got to go and see P!nk live in concert on her Beautiful Trauma tour! You can read about it here.

7) I understand from my Facebook friends that this bird is a Brown Falcon that landed on the balcony when we were staying on the Gold Coast. The bird stayed there for ages and let me get really close, hence the photo! We think it was watching something on the beach below as we also had a few different birds land on the balcony before diving off a few times later in the day.

8) This photo was taken at the start of the Bridge to Brisbane race (before the rain pummelled us!!). I wrote about the event here and am already looking forward to next years race which may be a 10km!

Things I have Loved this month – August 2018

September 5, 2018 by Vicky Leave a Comment

I know I say it every month but where did August go. It seems like in a blink of an eye it was over and it was, as usual absolutely jam packed for us! There are only a few short months left this year and I am trying to make the most of each and every one of them.

Without further ado I shall recap my fabulous August!

MOVIES

RBG – I had not heard a lot about Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg but I saw that a volunteer organisation I follow was holding a special screening which prompted me to read more. I couldn’t make the special screening but I went with the Aussie, Naomi and Naomi’s lovely mum. I love movies and television shows which are in the legal sphere and I was not disappointed by this documentary about a strong woman who has worked her way through the justice system. Naomi has bought the books Ruth Bader Ginsberg in Her own Words and also the Notorious RBG and we are currently working our way through each book before swapping over.

BLACKkKLANSMAN – this film was amazingly acted with a brilliant cast. The story is also a biography of a black Police Officer who went undercover to try and join his local Ku Klux Klan. It showed the way he was treated by his own colleagues which is crazy to even imagine happening but also just how he infiltrated the group.

Christopher Robin – I don’t think this movie is out here for another week or so but I spotted that our local cinema had screenings so we went to see it with Naomi and the Aussie’s sister. This film was just so lovely and gentle and sweet. It was the perfect Friday night treat after a hectic week at work. I loved the storyline and the animations were pretty fantastic. I know this is a film I will watch again and again.

THEATRE & MUSIC

Letters to Lindy – A lot of people have heard the story of Lindy Chamberlain whose baby daughter was taken from a camp and killed by dingoes. Lindy was charged with and found guilty of murder, spending three years in prison in the Northern Territory. Lindy has received thousands of letters of the years and this play was the story of what happened from the date Azaria was taken with the use of the letters. It was really very moving and also shocking what actually happened to Lindy and what she lost as a result.

P!nk – I blogged about the P!nk Concert which was absolutely fantastic here.

TRAVEL

Glasshouse Mountains – during the Brisbane Show (The Ekka) everyone in Brisbane gets a day off so that we can visit the show. I don’t know anyone who actually went to the show but the Aussie and I decided to hit the road and pay a visit to the Glasshouse Mountains on the Sunshine Coast. We spent a lovely day exploring the area and enjoying the stunning views and I’m planning on writing about our trip soon.

FITNESS

The Colour Run & Bridge to Brisbane – I have written about the Bridge to Brisbane event here but the week before the Aussie and I also participated in the Colour Run on the Gold Coast. The Colour Run is a very fun 5km event where you get literally sprayed in coloured paint along the way. This was the second time I took part in the Colour Run and I know I will definitely have a go again.
