My Favourite Meal Plan Meals

September 26, 2018 by Vicky Leave a Comment

As I have mentioned before I work with the fantastic Felicity Neale on my weight loss journey. Felicity works week to week setting me meal plans and exercise based upon our goals which are currently weight loss and fat reduction.

My meal plan is great because I am never hungry! I eat five times a day on gym days and four times a day on non-gym days. I will eat before and after the gym, around 11am and 2pm and again about 6pm.

I cook and meal prep a few days in advance so usually have two or three days of meals ready and then store the different components which make up the meals until I need to prep the next few days. I find this is the best way to stay on plan and avoids the risk of picking something quick and easy and unhealthy just because I am hungry.

I have tried lots of food combinations over the last 6 or so months and it is really showing the results for me too. I tend to have the same meals over the course of a week so when I love the combination this definitely helps boost my meal times.

There are many meal combos that I enjoy / have enjoyed but the ones below are the ones I especially love.

Chicken, sweet potato and green beans – I LOVE sweet potato and chicken is always a winner so every time I have had this on my meal plan I have been pretty excited. I usually season with salt and / or pepper and enjoy some cayenne pepper with it as well. This will absolutely be a meal I will look forward to.

Minced turkey, pumpkin and broccoli – I was finding turkey breast to be quite dry when cooked and stored for meal prep and also quite expensive so tried some turkey mince and found it was delicious. Now whenever turkey is on the menu I buy the mince. This combination with mashed pumpkin and broccoli with some cayenne pepper / chilli is so so good!

Oats, protein powder and peanut butter – this is my absolute favourite breakfast! When I was eating it for breakfast I would have to say that my motivation to get through my gym session, especially if I was having an off day, was the fact that I could have a tablespoon of peanut butter with my oats! I combined the oats and peanut butter with the Women’s Best Salted Toffee Pretzel or Peanut Butter Marshmallow protein powder and they were both perfect in the combination. This is quite possibly my favourite healthy breakfast meal!

I haven’t specified the macros for my meal as Felicity puts them together specifically for me. If you want to try any of the combinations you should make sure they fit your individual macros!

Colour Run 2018

September 23, 2018 by Vicky Leave a Comment

You may have noticed from this blog that I am a bit competitive / a glutton for punishment as I keep signing up for organised walk/runs (and dragging Naomi and the Aussie along for the ride)!

Last year Naomi and I did the Colour Run. It was a lot of fun and so when the dates were released for the Gold Coast event I signed us up.

The day of the Colour Run came around and unfortunately Naomi was poorly so I roped the Aussie in. Luckily he’s on a health kick at the moment too so he agreed (maybe grudgingly!).

The run takes place on a Sunday morning and so we got up and dressed in our colour run tshirts and headbands and headed to the start line at Broadwater Parklands.

When we arrived there was a big stage again and lots going on. You could get lots of free goodies like coffee, fruit, cereal bars, pens and all sorts. Though it was tricky as we still had to do the 5km’s!

At the start time they let people through in waves so we lined up and we’re on our way pretty quickly.

We quickly began hitting the colour sections where the paint is thrown, chucked and sprinkled on you! I opted for a twirl at each station for maximum coverage!

We made our way round in a good time, accepted our medal and were blasted with a leaf blower to get the loose paint off!

There were free Krispy Kream donuts and Slurpies but that didn’t appeal to either of us! We headed back to the apartment we were staying in (thank you again so much Naomi) showered and headed back to Brisbane.

I will definitely sign up for next years Colour Run and I think the Aussie may as well!

Things I have Learned Recently

May 30, 2018 by Vicky Leave a Comment

On Mondays and Fridays I work out with my Personal Trainer and so don’t take my phone or headphones for something to listen to during my cardio. Sometimes I watch the tv shows which have the subtitles on but last week whilst there I got to thinking and came up with the following list of things I have learned or at least realised recently.

1. That I really like exercise! Who knew!?! At school I did everything I could to avoid PE because I hated it but now in an environment of getting fit, healthy and wellness I love the challenge of the weight lifting in the PT sessions, walking park run or with the Aussie and friends. It’s a shame really that I didn’t discover this passion for it at school but I have now and I am fitter and healthier than ever.

2. That nutrition really is key. Now I did always know that a healthy diet is essential but I didn’t fully realise how vital it is when you are trying to loose weight and get healthy. When I started going to the gym I lost weight but it was very hit and miss and so for several months I ended up loosing and gaining the same two kilos over and over. I am very lucky as about 6 or 7 weeks ago I started receiving nutritional advice which includes meal plans every one to two weeks and advice and guidance which has been invaluable. This has been a total game changer for me, I have broken my bad snacking habits, never feel hungry and I have had such great results.

3. That being able to fit into a “normal” clothes size (at the top end but they fit and don’t look to bad) can actually be overwhelming when shopping. Shopping used to be tough, I would have to see what I could find in my size and hope it fit and din’t look to terrible. I now walk through the shops and see so many things I like and that should fit that I don’t know where to begin (which may be helpful in stopping me spend!) so I walk away without anything!

4. That just because you are “thinner” doesn’t mean your brain gets it. At home and work etc we don’t have full length mirrors so I only see my head and shoulders properly. I can see in my face I have lost weight but don’t see my body much. When I do catch my reflection in a full length mirror or a photograph it frequently catches me by surprise now and I guess I am shocked! In a good way. I think this just means my brain needs to catch up with my body but it is a fantastic feeling seeing myself from time to time!

5. That it’s hard to take compliments sometimes. My family and friends are so amazingly supportive. Some are even lucky enough to get bombarded with my internal monologue about my diet, exercise and weight loss, sorry about that! When people tell me they think I’m doing great etc my initial reaction is oh but I still need to loose X kgs and I need to stop doing that and take the compliment and appreciate the hard work I have been putting in!

My Week Day Morning Routine

October 22, 2017 by Vicky Leave a Comment

My week day routine is always pretty much the same, although Wednesday is usually my rest day so I will try and wake up a bit later. I usually get everything ready the night before so my gym and work clothes as well as breakfast and lunch are ready to go.

On a week day morning my routine looks a bit like this:

5am – my alarm goes off. Most of the time I do wake up on the first alarm, although the Aussie will confirm that from time to time it does go off two or three times!

5am – 5.30am – I get ready for the gym, brush my teeth, grab my water, headphones and car keys before driving down the road to the gym.

5.30am – 6.30am/6.45am – I work out in the gym. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday I do my own thing or what my PT sets for me and on Friday I train with my Personal Trainer.

6.45am – 8am – I come home, weigh myself (I do it every day, I know that’s not a good thing but its a habit now), take my vitamins, have a protein shake and some water and shower to get ready for work.

8am – 8.10am – I pack my breakfast and lunch in my bag and head out of the door for work. I drive to work, which is a 10 minute drive from our house.

8.30am – I start work at 8.30am and work until 5pm most days. I eat my breakfast at work usually. When work is busier I try and arrive at work between 7.30am and 8.30am and so will just speed up my getting ready routine after I finish at the gym.
