April has been an incredibly busy month and we have spent something like 3 weekends during the month away from home. I love exploring and travelling so the time away was lovely but it has limited the time we had for things like movies, books and music. However looking back I cand see that there were lots of things I have loved this month.
Events
Commonwealth Games – I had the best time at the Commonwealth Games this month. We watched the Netball, Rugby 7’s and of course I participated in the Gold Run fun run. During the Rugby and Netball we watched quite a few England matches and we won each of the matches and it was really exciting! Every goal had me cheering and my throat was a bit hoarse by the end of it.
Movies
Death of Stalin – I almost forgot I watched this movie but I did early in the month. It was very Monty Python esque and had you laughing throughout. Apparently, at least according to the notes at the end, elements of the film were accurate and some bits had you wondering how on earth they came up with it.
I feel Pretty – I loved this film which was very funny in Amy Schumer’s way but also had a great underlying message about confidence about yourself. They handled it well and there were situations that we would all recognise from day to day life. The ending was also pretty perfect.
Isle of Dogs – I saw this movie on Anzac Day and it was such a sweet and funny movie about dogs excommunicated to trash island by the Mayor because of an outbreak of dog flu and also political reasons and one boys mission to rescue his dog. It was partly in Japanese, sometimes with translation and sometimes without and English but you always followed what was happening.
Books
Woman in the Window – I finished listening to this book on Audible. I continued to find the narrators voice a bit irritating but I did really want to find out what happened. The story was definitely a slow burner for me, it probably was over half way through before the “action” started happening. At that stage I had an inkling of what was going on but not who the protagonist was so the ending was a good surprise. It did end well and fit the rest of the story and I think I will try and read some more of A.J Finn’s work.
Presumption of Guilt – I read this book by Marti Green on my Kindle. It is book 2 of the Innocent Prisoners Project and afterwards I discovered I have books 1 and 3 as well so could have read them in order! The book didn’t refer to the previous novel so it seems its a standalone book which is good. The book is about a not for profit law firm who act for wrongly convicted prisoners. In this case it was the story of a girl Molly Singer, who was found guilty of murdering her parents at the age of 16. She had confessed to the murders and the recanted the confession and in those circumstances it is very difficult to convince the Jury of your innocence. The book was fast paced and kept me gripped so that I just wanted to know how it would end. I am looking forward to reading books 1 and 3 in due course.
Music
Mountain by Generdyn featuring Rhett Walker – I am still loving this song which we discovered at the Commonwealth Games. It is often on repeat in my car.
