Somehow we have been living in Brisbane for almost 12 months! We had been very happy in our house, albeit it is a bit on the small side. We had a good chat with the landlord about staying on and knew he would be offering for us to renew the lease. Then came the message from the letting agent that he wanted to renew the lease with us and put the rent up!
When we looked around we found that there were several houses around that were bigger and less rent that we currently live. There came the question, do we negotiate, pay the increase in rent or move. I was keen on moving and the Aussie was keen on staying put because of the hassles it would cause for his business as he works from home.
Over the last couple of weeks we have been to look at quite a few houses around the area where we currently live to see what was on offer and to help us decide whether we should move or not at the start of June. Some of the houses were gross (the Aussie asked one of the Agents in all seriousness whether someone had died in the house because it smelt so bad, she thought he was joking!), some were too small or just not the right space that we wanted and two were just right and firm favourites of ours.
We figured we would apply for the two we liked and see if we got offered either. Our lease doesn’t expire until 9 June so if we were accepted they would have to wait a few weeks before we move in. We knew that would be the deciding factor because some landlords might think its better to know someone will be moving in on a certain date than risk waiting to find someone and some would insist you need to move in as soon as possible.
On Monday last week we were advised that we had been approved for both houses and as we had fallen in love with one of them, which has the bedroom space we wanted as well as a huge garage and two extra rooms which can be used as an office by the Aussie and a room which may end up a movie / music / yoga type room it was a no brainer and we accepted that house and we are now moving on 26 May!
Now begins the big organise everything for the move and get packing before we move, which I not so secretly love!
Luckily we don’t have a lot of big pieces of furniture and had avoided buying big things like wardrobes even though we have no inbuilt clothes storage in our current house, but the sofa was hard to get into the house so we know it will be a bit tricky.
We are both quite excited about the new space. I am trying to suss out how we will put the furniture out and whether we need to buy anything extra.
We’ve also explored the surrounding area a bit and discovered a really nice park about 2 minutes walk away which will be great as I miss having somewhere close to just go for a walk in the evenings.
Finally we will be in and settled for when my family arrives in July and I am really looking forward to showing them our home.
