My Favourite Photos from September 2017

October 14, 2017 by Vicky Leave a Comment

Somehow its already October 2017, really where has this year gone!?! Looking back at my photos in my phone (I really should be taking my DSLR out and about) I saw that September was a pretty good month so thought I would share my favourite photos from the Month.

From left to right starting in the top row:

1) This photo was taken at the Diversity at Dusk Event.

2) This is Harry, possibly Harriet, the Possum who now visits our balcony almost daily. The lure of our balcony is the fact the Aussie feeds Harry strawberries, who could resist that!

3) New tomato plants. I bought four tomato plants at the beginning of the month and they are doing pretty well. Something ate the leaves a couple of weeks ago but it doesn’t seem to have stopped the plants from growing. I’m hoping some netting will stop future leaf attacks so we get some fresh home grown tomatoes in due course.

4) Random tardis thing! This was taken at the entrance to King George Park in the CBD and is apparently called ‘Forme de Mito’. There are four gold statues of varying geometric shapes in the area which we discovered after taking a wander through the city. They look pretty cool in the sunlight and are just below Jacobs Ladder.

5) This little bird comes and sits outside my office window on the tv aerial almost daily. It sits there singing for a while before flying off to the nearest tree. I’m not sure what species of bird it is but it always makes me smile.

6) Gym time! This photo was taken early one Saturday morning. With my gym routine during the week, I now find I also wake up at stupid o’clock on a Saturday. Whilst the Aussie is sleeping I have popped to the gym for an hour or so to get those steps in for the day.

7) Brisbane Festival. I love all of the photos I have taken at the Festival. I also tagged my photos “#celebratebrisbane” on Instagram and when we were at the festival on 30 September 2017, we walked past the big screen a few times and on the last occasion I saw 3 of my photos on the screen which was exciting!

8) Pottery. I didn’t make the mug but I did have a go at painting it! My friend Naomi and I spent a couple of hours at The Ceramic Studio after purchasing vouchers on Groupon. We spent a little while talking with the owners about pottery and how they cast and cook the items which are available for painting before painting our own pots. I painted a mug and Naomi painted a vase. We are currently waiting for the finished article, and hopefully they look as great as we imagine they will!

9) 10) 13) and 14) These are all photos from various aspects of the Riverfire Event which we visited on 30 September 2017.

12) This is a screenshot of the route of my first Park Run (walk). The Aussie, Naomi and I rocked up at 7am for a 5km walk. This was mine and the Aussie’s first Park Run (walk) and I wasn’t particularly fast, but I do now have a starting point to work on improving. We think we will probably participate every other week or so, so hopefully by the end of the year my time will be a few minutes shorter.

My Favourite Photos from May

July 3, 2015 by Vicky Leave a Comment

I’m still playing catch up a bit but here are my favourite photos from May. I didn’t take many this month on my phone but again I took quite a few on my DSLR and will be sharing those photos in a post to come soon!

My Favourite Photos from May

1) Another beautiful sunset at Mindil Beach Sunset Markets.

2) Every sunset seems to be completely different and this is another one from our balcony looking out across the city.

3) Sunrise at Corroboree Billabong – i’m terrible at getting up in the morning to take some sunrise photos bit when I do it is always more than worth it.

4) A very tasty cupcake that I had in work. It’s purple which makes it extra amazing!

5) I say i’m terrible at seeing sunrises but this was a sunrise I took a photo of on my way to work. Granted I was going in to work extra early so I didn’t get up early for the sunrise. I will one day soon!

6) Camera envy at Corroboree Billabong! These are a selection of the cameras taken on a boat trip with the camera club and those big lenses you see are exactly the kind I want!

My Favourite Photos from April

June 25, 2015 by Vicky Leave a Comment

As I’ve been a bit AWOL from my blog for a month or so I didn’t get an opportunity to post my favourite photos from April. I took quite a few photos on my DSLR this month but I am saving them for some posts in the coming weeks but here are my photos from my iPhone.

My Favourite Photos from April

1) A bit blurry but this photo was taking at the sailing club at sunset. It’s always nice to see the boats out in Fannie Bay because they tend to leave for the wet season because of the weather and they move back when the dry season starts.

2) This photo was taken on our Yellow Water Cruise when we visited Kakadu.

3) Another Kakadu photo this time of the highway heading down to the escarpment. The view was stunning and I made the Aussie stop quite a few times to take photos of it.

4) This little grasshopper guy was sat on the bonnet of our car and promptly launched himself off of it when I tried to take photos.

5) Another coffee time spent with one of my lovely friends. I can’t work out how they make the patterns and my coffees taste yum but look terrible.

6) Kakadu featured heaving in my pictures from April and this photo was taken at the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre.

7) April was of course Easter and this bunny was a gift from my boss at work and he was delicious!!!

8) Sunset view from our balcony – it really never gets old for me.

9) This is a weather guide/predictor which was at the Bowali Visitor Centre in Kakadu.

10) Finally a tower at the end of the highway which lead to an escarpment.

My Favourite Photos from January 2015

February 10, 2015 by Vicky 3 Comments

Last month I posted my favourite photos from 2014 and in honour of that “tradition” I thought I would share my favourite photos from the last month below.

It seems that my January was a fairly food orientated month with some new recipes tested and also a few dinners out with the Aussie and friends. Mind you still not a terrible way to spend what was otherwise a hectic working month for me!

Here are my favourite photos from January 2015

January 2015 Outback Expat Faves

From L-R top row
1. First time trying an espresso martini at Chow Darwin whilst having dinner with some lovely girlies in Darwin. Pretty yum cocktail but made much better in my opinion by the ice cream float you added I think!

2. Christening our new BBQ with the most amazing marinade lamb chops I have ever made. I will share the recipe next time I make them!

3. Experimental fish pie made with salmon and cod from scratch including the white sauce. It was pretty much amazing. I was worried the Aussie wouldn’t like it as I wanted to make it again and luckily he did.

4 Home made Banana loaf made with local bananas. The recipe is here if you fancy giving it a try.

5.Pad Thai at Chow again. I only recently tried this dish for the first time and love it, it’s so tasty and Chow always make sure they don’t add the prawns because I am allergic to prawns. So delicious.

6. Student diary purchased and ready for starting studying in less than a months time! Also purple which is amazing!

7. I think I went a bit photo (aka cocktail crazy in Chow) as this is a Mango Crushie with vodka that tasted just like mango juice. Too easy to drink. I also tried the Ka Pow number 1 at Chow which was pretty special and very gingery which I love.

8. Penguin ornaments. I am a teeny bit of a penguin fan as you know and for Christmas my best friends from my home town in the UK sent me the penguin ornament on the left which has a map of Antarctica on it which I love. After posting a picture of it they realised I had been sent the wrong map and arranged for the correct one with a map of Somerset where I am from in the UK, on it and now I have a gorgeous pair.

9. FaceTiming with my dog Henry. I miss him like crazy and more often than not when he see’s or hears me on FaceTime he turns the other way but here we are both led down having a chat. Love my boy and can’t wait to see him at Christmas.

10. Fiddlers Green in Darwin a pretty nice and extremely reasonably priced restaurant/pub I visited with my friend, her partner and their little boy with on Australia Day for lunch before dashing off to the Movies to watch the Imitation Game which was a very cool film. Of course where else would you celebrate Australia Day than visiting an Irish restaurant!

There is my January in photos! What did you get up to?
