I have never been very fit or active and it was really becoming quite limiting on what I could or would want to do. In February 2017 I joined a gym and haven’t really looked back since then. I did loose 4 stone about 7 or 8 years ago but quickly put it back on again when I stopped focusing on my health.
I won’t share my start weight or dress size now, or even ever and I may share before and after photos at some stage but I’m not ready for that yet. I can confirm that I have lost 20kg so far and I am currently 4 dress sizes smaller than I started out. I plan more weight loss in the coming months. I am not where I would like but I am certainly a lot closer to were I want to be.
In February I joined a gym and that and my diet fell into place really well. As Darwin is so outdoorsy, even in the heat, it was fairly easy to embrace being a bit more active.
As you know we moved to Brisbane in June 2017 and the gym routine fell a bit to the wayside for a couple of months. I didn’t put weight on but it got stuck and I was fluctuating and going up and down by around 1 kg for a while. I couldn’t make myself get up to go to the gym which was a nice waste of money and we were embracing Uber Eats a bit too much!
I decided/realised that my desire to go to the gym was possibly being affected by the gym I joined. I am sure its a good gym for many and our American friend L goes to a different gym in the chain and really likes it but it wasn’t what I was looking for. It was close to my work which was great but I prefer going to the gym before work and then coming home to get ready before heading to the office which wasn’t practical. I decided to look for a gym closer to my house and have now joined one within walking distance which I am enjoying.
So now I am going to the gym four times during the week on work days before work, walking one night during the week with the Aussie and also on Saturday or Sunday for a couple of kilometres, attending a boot camp seperate to my gym followed by aqua aerobics on a Saturday morning and I love it. This is the same routine I had in Darwin and I know it worked well for me with a balanced diet so it will be good in Brisbane.
I have done some organised walks in the last few months and will probably write some posts about that in the coming months. I will do some more walks to keep me motivated as well, so will probably talk about it all here from time to time.
