Its been a couple of months since we got back from our extended trip to Bali in November. We are STILL trying to sort out our insurance claim (thanks but no thanks Insure and Go) but I thought now would be a good time to reflect on our trip which was lovely and relaxing.
When we got back our friend Naomi asked me what my highlights were and I think they have to be:
My birthday lunch in Ubud
We got to eat amazing Indonesian food in a gorgeous setting at the Bridges Restaurant in Ubud which looked out over the old suspension bridge. We watched balinese squirrels running up and down the trees followed by a bit of shopping. Afterwards we sheltered from the rain in a bar overlooking a beautiful temple before heading back to the villa in a taxi where the taxi driver played music which we sang along too (not sure he enjoyed the singing!!!).
Our day trip with Dean around the island
When I went to Bali in March 2017 with the camera club Dean and his team drove us around and they were so informative and funny. Dean is also a fantastic photographer so I knew that we needed to book Dean for our trip in November. We visited some temples, the big Banyon Tree and Tanah Lot and it was a great way to explore the island.
Having our own private villa
We booked a gorgeous Villa in Seminyak for what turned out to be the first half of our holiday. The villa had a pool which we swam in every day and because we were a few streets back from the main road we were close enough to the restaurants and shops to have a wander down but it was still nice and quiet for us to relax. It was also lovely to have our own space and to not have people coming and going all day. I would definitely do it again and also stay at the same villa as well.
The food
We managed to visit a few restaurants and cafes in Seminyak and then Kuta when we moved to a hotel there. I tried to eat the more traditional Balinese food whilst there and I was not disappointed.

Reading and relaxing
Work had been hectic in the run up to our break (and after too!) and we hadn’t really had any time off since Christmas 2016 because we moved mid way through 2017. We were very ready for a holiday and we got to have some nice relaxed days with reading, sleeping and good company. The extra few days gave us a nice extended break once we sorted out our flights and accomodation for the rest of the trip.
