Currently Five

January 14, 2018 by Vicky Leave a Comment

I haven’t done a currently post since about 2015 so I thought it might be about time with currently five!

What I am READING: I am currently reading two books, The Guilty Wife by Elle Croft on Audible when I am at the gym and The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost on my Kindle.

I have set myself the target of reading 10 books on the Goodreads Reading Challenge this year at the moment. I have read one book so far and usually get through a book in just under a month on Audible by listening to it at the gym so I am hopeful I hit and can increase my target this year.

What I am LISTENING to: We went to see The Greatest Showman last week and I downloaded the soundtrack as we were leaving the cinema. The film was beautiful and the soundtrack is so easy to listen to so I am listening to it a lot! I love This is Me which is sung by Keala Settle.

What I am WATCHING: I have finally managed to start catching up on the BBC series Call the Midwife on Netflix. I think I have two series to watch on Netflix and I’m not sure if I will then be up to date or if I’ll have to wait for new series to come onto Netflix. Its such a sweet series to watch.

I am also looking forward to Grace and Frankie’s new series which is released on 19 January.

What I am PLANNING: I am hoping we can make some plans to get out of the heat today as the forecast says the high is going to be 38 degrees and we don’t have any air conditioning at home.

What my FITNESS goals are: I have started my PT sessions again this week and my body is really feeling it. My Trainer has moved me on to barbell training now and I love that I am strong enough to lift the weights he sets for me and also that I am starting to see some signs of definition coming in my arms. I have a long way to go but I am excited.

I have also just signed up for the Mater International Women’s Day Fun Run on 4 March 2018 with Naomi. We have signed up for the 5km walk and I’m now just hoping that this intense heat starts wearing off by then.

I am due to participate in the Triathlon Pink event on 18 February 2018. I have been giving it some thought and have decided that I won’t participate in that event now because I am concerned about my current fitness level and having enough time to train. However as soon as it opens I will enrol for the Brisbane event which appears to be scheduled in October 2018 instead and then I should be in a better place for next years Triathlon on the Gold Coat.

What I am enjoying EATING: I have a pretty standard diet every day which included porridge made with almond milk and berries but have found that with the temperature increase that porridge is just not appealing. I am currently experimenting with a recipe for my breakfast smoothies.

I think I have the recipe about right now and have found that it keeps me full until lunch time which is perfect, especially after a work out. I will try and share the recipe when I love it.

Currently Four…

Another week another installment of currently four!

Reading – Administrative law textbooks which are as boring as they sound!

Doing – I’ve been trying to break my weekends up with studying in the morning each day and then an activity in the afternoon. Yesterday morning I studied corporations (company) law which was quite interesting before an afternoon sailing and dinner with a couple who both have a birthday this weekend. This morning it’s been the administrative law study followed by going to see The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of a Window and Disappeared with the Aussie in a couple of hours. I tried reading this book last year but couldn’t get into it really but the film looks funny so I’m hoping we enjoy it. Unfortunately I will have to carry on the admin law study when we get home though.

Watching – I need to watch the admin law lecture from this week this afternoon/evening. Have to say not looking forward to that. Hopefully will finish it in time to watch The Block which is currently one of my favourite programs. I think its the want to own a house in me!

Listening – The Best Sixties Album in the World (their title not my description though it is pretty good). A lot of Sixties music reminds me of holidays with my parents and brother when we were at school, especially one where our dirty laundry was on a roof rack on top of the car and blew off! I heard a song on Friday night called Friday on My Mind and when I searched for it on iTunes the album came up on the list so decided to download it. It isn’t the best music for me to study with as keep getting distracted and “singing” along.

Hoping – that if you like my blog you might pay a visit to the My So Called Chaos blog and vote for my blog in the Trusty Traveler category and for my Creamy Salmon Pasta recipe!

2015 My So-Called Chaos Best of Blog Awards

I also saw some of my fave blogs are nominated Green Loving Girl, Rhyme and Ribbons, Misadventures with Andi, Cosmos Mariners, North and South Nomads, Snow in Tromso, An Unsettling Big Place, Love the Here and Now, Ember Grey – if you need some inspiration for the other categories!

It seems like my Currently posts on a Saturday are a bit of a tradition (other than last week of course) and in an attempt to avoid study I thought I would provide a bit of an update of my Currentlies! By the way how is it the end of February already? It’s going to be another fly by year I think.

Watching – The Big Bang Theory, these shows never get old and I can watch them over and over a bit like Friends which I still laugh at now.

Preparing – My files for my courses starting this week. Some of the lecture notes are already out so have been printing and filing them away ready for my first lectures on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

Eating – Our friends gave us some fresh farm eggs last week so I have been enjoying lots of delicious egg dishes! This morning was a pretty good scrambled eggs on toast and a coffee. Great start to Saturday which started at 8am as we were having our food shopping delivered this morning between 8.30am and 11.30am. Ouch!

Feeling – Much better after my allergic reaction. I visited the Doctor again (third times a charm) on Thursday and confirmed that my skin is all back to normal now so no further treatment as the Doctor has thought I had some kind of hyper pigmentation. Until the start of the week my hands were still quite red and the skin was not pretty but it’s all normal looking now.

Planning – To go to the movies today or tomorrow whilst the Aussie is sailing as I’m avoiding sun exposure for a while after my ridiculous sunburn/allergy fiasco. Not sure what to watch though so any suggestions are welcome!

It feels like a good day for a bit of currently…

Currently...

Laughing at and singing along to Listen to the Man by George Ezra and staring Sir Ian Mckellan in the video which is very funny!

Listening to my Spotifly playlist which includes George Ezra, Sam Smith, Pasenger and Sia.

Enjoying air conditioning. The only rooms in our apartment which have air con are the bedrooms so it is the perfect excuse for setting up base for the weekend in bed! Despite the fact we are technically in the wet season, there is a pretty significant lack of the wet stuff. We should be getting a lot of rain almost all day every day but we’re having a few storms a week which does break the humidity but it quickly resume building up to the next storm. They say we’re due for a cyclone next week or at least some monsoon rain which is very much appreciated.

Reading Taboo by Casey Hill after my visit to the library in the City this week. I’m enjoying reading an actual book rather than an e-book for a change!

Feeling tired. My sleeping is getting a bit hit and miss at the moment. Some nights I am fast asleep by 9pm, sometimes I fall asleep on the sofa for an hour and then feel wide awake (not helpful) and some nights its 1am or later until I sleep. I need to get this sorted as it’s making the week days tough some times.

Excited and Nervous about getting going at University. It’s taken such a long time, it’s feeling a bit like Christmas with all the hype and then it will arrive and I’ll be surprised it’s here!

Anxious about my Visa. We applied in July last year and it says there is a 6 month turnaround for low risk applicants, which I guess I am as I am from the UK, but we haven’t heard anything yet. We didn’t upload our final documents until October, or at least what we thought were the last documents they needed, so have been timing the 6 months period from October but on the website it just basically says processing don’t call us we’ll call you. I’m a bit concerned that the lack of contact means they are waiting for something but haven’t told us what. I’ve heard stories of people being told of for calling Immigration and have visions of the paperwork going to the bottom of the pile because we called so I am trying to resist making the call. For a slightly control freak lawyer this is tough!

Looking at my very sunburnt hands, knees and feet after an afternoon sailing around Darwin’s harbour. I have a line of sunburn on each knee in exactly the same place!! We spent the afternoon sailing on a friends new boat for the second weekend in a row which was a lot of fun. The Aussie even taught a couple of us how to tack and jibe and had us doing it over and over. The tough bit was when we had to do both sides of the boat at the same time, that’s exhausting if your not used to it!
