Today is Halloween, the eve of All Saints’ Day on 1 November, when it is thought that the souls of the dead could mingle with the living.
Last year, we spent a night a the Museum, kind of, which you can read about here.
This year we don’t have anything planned other than hopefully avoiding the trick or treaters if we get any in our area.
I did, however spend a lovely evening at the Manly Village Halloween Street Party on Saturday.
We had a very amused afternoon watching all the kids and adults walking to and from the Street Party. There was some real effort put into the event, it was impressive and I may have even suggested to Naomi that we participate next year, although I don’t like getting dressed up in fancy dress to much.
We wandered along to the street party itself for the Parade which began at 6pm and were really quite impressed. There were some nice old cars dressed up in all kinds of paraphernalia ranging from cobwebs and giant spiders, to 3 Arnold Schwarzenegger on top of cars!
In between we were treated to various bands and dancers from in and around Brisbane. The public who had got dressed up were also invited to walk in the parade in between the cars, bands and dancers.
After the Parade we took a walk around the actual street party which was filled with everything from food to face painters. The atmosphere was great and it was quite funny to suddenly come across a witch / vampire / ghost etc. on our travels.
At about 9pm there was also a fireworks display from the harbour which topped off the night perfectly.

We have already said we plan to go again next year and think this will be an annual treat for us.
